raping a 13-year-old girl last month. alvin ray wright has been charged. police say wright grabbed the girl on north caroline street, pulled her into an abandoned house and sexually assaulted her. evidence at the scene matched dna from wright after he was raised for drugs. >> his dna profile was in the data base from a prior conviction. we took the evidence we recovered from the forensic medical examination, put that into the data base. the two matched up. that's how we identified mr. wright. >> wright remains in custody and is being held without bail. the man accused have you raping and attacking women up and down the east coast will be extradited from connect to virginia. >> eric thomas was arrested in his town of new haven,

connecticut. he is responsible for rapes and other attacks on women over the course of 10 years, at least within year in maryland. well, she was trying to do the write thing but ended up getting robbed on the side of the road. a 21-year-old pulled up on black berry lane last night. she was entering a new address in her gps unit when another car pulled in front of her. the man walked to her passenger door and asked if everything was okay. >> at a certain point he demands money. he didn't imemploy a gun but very forceful -- imply a gun but very forceful. >> the white compact car took off. police searched the area but couldn't find them.

anyone with information is asked to call metro crime stoppers at 1-866-7 lockup. baltimore police took nearly $25,000 worth of marijuana off the streets today. officers were serving a warrant in the 800 block of north ca thee dpral -- cathedral street. when they searched the home, they found nine pounds of marijuana and a large amount of cash. the home is half a block away from the baltimore school for the arts. once again, a sex abuse has hit a major school. this time it's the men's basketball team at syracuse. >> reporter: syracuse fired assistant basketball coach bernie fine. one of the victims made a

recorded call to bernie fine's wife. overnight syracuse university fired him after -- espn aired this recorded. >> bernie has issues. >> reporter: she was talking to bobby davis. years ago davis said fine molested him when he was a ball by. >> you think i'm the only one? >> no i think there might be others. you can be honest with me. >> he grabbed me. >> reporter: davis said he often spent the night at the fine's home. another accuse are -- there are now three -- told police fine molested him when he was 13. >> he was sitting on the bed

into the holidays happy. their profits have sky rock kepted 88%. a move to get younger shoppers inside, the store has just started accepting visa and mastercard. before you had to use cash, american express or the neiman marcus card. apple products seem to be on everybody's wish list. mac computers are popular among teens. on friday, ipads flew off the shelves. also popular with teens -- cash, clothing and video systems. many hit the malls, target,

the holidays are fast approaching but some members will not be home with their families. some students are helping to make the holidays brighter for those fighting over seas. a program called sweets for troops is making a difference. >> reporter: the harbor school

sits tucked away in a quiet area in owings mills in buccaneer -- baltimore county. it helps kids with anxiety disorders and depression. children are helping others by putting together care packages for soldiers serving overseas. >> we want them to learn a very important part of ac citizen in a dem -- being a citizen in a democratic society is about giving back. no matter where you are, you have the responsibility to give back. >> reporter: it's called sweets for troops. they're putting together care packages to send to the troops for the holidays. it's a way of saying thank you to the troops and for keeping us

students were ready to load up the packages, aiming to give troops treats for the holidays. in owings mills, sherrie johnson. >> there's one in owings mills and juan in annapolis. the school serves 260 students with learning challenges. we're on a roll with temperatures in the 60s and 70s. check out the beautiful sunset. gorgeous today. now as the sun is setting, things are looking good. 64 degrees. that humidity is 68%. winds at seven miles an hour. the visibility is pretty good at 10. but as we go through the overnight, we could get patchy fog in the morning. yes. we see the cloud cover but we also got sunshine. so a nice little mix.

to 20, 25 miles an hour. highs made it up to 69 at the inner harbor. yesterday we made it up to 71. so, yes, feeling good. cambridge 72. 73 into culpepper. your forecast for tomorrow. 62 degrees into lutherville. we'll have more cloud cover and also some rain. pasadena around 63 degrees. so break out that rain -- rain gear. we see rain off to the west. that system will be moving in as we go into tomorrow. you can see on the back side of the system some mixing of some snow, sleet, rain. we are looking at milder air still sandwiched in between the system but high pressure getting the boot as we go into tomorrow. so future trend picking up on what's going on. follow this. we should stay dry as we go through the overnight. there's a chance for showers in the forecast. then we get the bulk of the rain as we go into 3:00.

waistlines are bigger. there was a nine-year period starting in kindergarten. they found nearly 40% had a body mass index in the 71st percentile or higher. that's a 25% increase sips the '70s and 1980s. children in that category should consider changing. the dangers of sudden infant death syndrome or sids have doctors urging parents to place babies on their backs. there has been an incress in the flat head sin -- increase in the flat head syndrome. the academy warns even though it can lead to that syndrome, parents should not stop placing

babies on their backs to sleep. until a baby is one year old, doctors should screen for skull deform ties. a message from the centers of disease control and prevention is clear. the chicken pox vaccine is the best way to prevent the virus in most kids more than a year. what about those too young to be vaccinated. researchers tracked it from 1999 to 2008 and found cases dropped 90% among infants. prior to that babies were more likely to die from chicken pox than those older than a year. improving vaccination rates in all kids will further drop the risk. many of us use the holiday season as a reason to overeat
